Dear members, dear friends,
We feel sadness, because Mr. Wilfried Thiel has left us forever. He died some days ago at Neuwied at the Rhine River.
As a former Halle citizen Mr. Thiel until the end of his life had a place in his heart for his hometown, always wishing to visit this place again. Bad health prevented him from coming to us. He was in advanced age when began research on von Luckner’s live. The reason – he once told me – was that he felt sad about the fact that the city of Halle refused to honor the Count and this event after the wall had come down. Mr. Thiel did a really good job and for us, the papers now are a quite good part of our archive.
Mr. Thiel until his last days had a sparkling in his eyes especially when telling about the Count. I personally visited him December last year after having purchased the model of "Seeadler". I showed it to him, he was lucky. Unfortunately, during his life his dream did not come true. In Halle the Count is not yet honoured!
We will continue to do researches to make this project come true.
