Dear members, dear friends,

There are some important and most interesting news to be told.

You know that Blaine Pardoe this year published the book "The Cruise of the Sea Eagle". He now is on his way telling about this book, the story of the Count and doing in the same moment good public relation work for our society.

Blaine sent the following information and I am delighted to forward these to you, thank you, Blaine!

Publicity:
Recently the US National Archives lecture series invited Blaine Pardoe to discuss his book on Count Felix von Luckner.  There were 40 individuals in attendance including the German Naval Attaché to the US Government.  The response to the story of Count von Luckner was outstanding.  Relating the full story, including the WWII events in Halle, brought a very positive response.  Our society was also mentioned.  This event was important because it was sponsored by the US Government and acknowledged the role that the Count played on the world stage.

The Origins Convention War College Series also hosted a lecture on the cruise of the Seeadler and the Count.   Twenty scholars and historians attended.

The Timberwolves Reunion also allowed Blaine to discuss the role of the 104th Division in the liberation of Halle.

An article was published in the summer issue of Prologue, the Journal of the National Archives, on Count Felix von Luckner and the Seeadler.

A review of The Cruise of the Sea Eagle appeared in Armchair General.  http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles.php?content=article_disp&p=2256&page=1&cat=59 and on Pirates and Privateers  http://www.cindyvallar.com/adultpiratebks2.html#SeaEagle and on Bookviews: http://www.bookviews.com/archive/bookviews-may2005.htm

Upcoming Publicity:
September 16 in New York City – The New York Military Affairs Symposium is hosting a lecture on Count Felix von Luckner and the cruise of the Seeadler.  This is sponsored by the City University of New York.  http://libraryautomation.com/nymas/

October 5 in Washington DC.  The US Navy Museum is hosting a lunch lecture on the book, the Cruise of the Sea Eagle.

An upcoming issue of Military Heritage magazine http://www.militaryheritagemagazine.com/ will feature Count Felix von Luckner and his lifelong work.

Finances:
We have applied for a grant from the Ford Foundation in the US.  We are still early in this process but we are hopeful that we can obtain some funding to commemorate the Count.  The amount we applied for was over $200,000.00 US.  We will keep the members posted as to our progress.  If we are allowed to move forward with this we will need detailed project plans and budgets prepared.

Promoting Count Von Luckner – What Members Can Do
As part of the promotion of his book, The Cruise of the Sea Eagle, Blaine Pardoe has begun talking with documentary producers as well as television networks regarding doing a documentary on Count Von Luckner’s life.

Thus far we have had contact with The History Channel, A&E Networks, and the Military Channel.  At this point in time, the Military Channel has opted to pass on doing a story on the Count, but this can change.

So what can the members of the society do?

You can write letters to these channels (which are distributed globally) to encourage them to produce a documentary on the Count.  I encourage all of the members to take a few minutes and send out letters (as indicated below) to help show that there is wide appeal to a show on the Count.
